Michele & Darryl
- Michele135 (and her hubby Darryl!) -

Before
Now!

Together this husband and wife team has lost 200 pounds!

First i'd just like to say that i can't believe that i'm writing a story about myself that's going to be used on a success story page! I am humbled by this experience. I would also like to point out that I don't really consider myself a success story, but I think of myself as a success-the-making. When i'm called heavenward, and my kids, grandkids and friends remember me as the cool, fit grandma that played ball, swam and played marco polo, and ran marathons until I just couldn't anymore, then and only then will I look down and say that I truly succeeded at attaining health and fitness.

I have been over weight since I was about nine years old and I remember food giving me comfort and I just loved the taste of almost anything sweet! I got pudgy and of course was teased and made to feel awkward. My plumpness continued into my teenage years, but I was a very lucky teenager to have the love of the most wonderful boy (now my hubby, darryl) and of great friends who didn't care what I weighed. I didn't have much interest in sports and I can say that 32 yrs of my life were spent as a couch potato.

Darryl and I got married when we were 20 (we're now 33 yrs old) and I was about 30 lbs overweight on our wedding day, and Darryl was in great shape and was at the perfect weight (that didnt' last). I was so proud to be able to cook my new hubby pies and cakes, and we entertained and ate out all the time! The weight started to creep up on both of us. soon we were the proud parents of 3 beautiful kids, and we have a 6, 9 & 10 yr old. As a stay at home mom, I found myself bored and sometimes overwhelmed by life's stresses and i'm not proud to say that of course I went to food as my outlet, and the weight kept going up and up and up!

In august 2001, I guess something snapped and I joined ww for the fourth time and just decided right then that I was leaving my old ways behind me and I was going to get into shape and be a good example to my kids (I weighed in at 208 lbs). Darryl decided to join me in my weight loss endeavours and the 2 of us jumped in with both feet. We both started an exercise routine (slowly at first) and now the 2 of us are running together and hope to run a half-marathon this september!

I am proud to say that I have lost 87 lbs now, have reached and surpassed my original goal, and I feel wonderful! Darryl has lost 105 lbs and has about 4 lbs to lose to reach his goal (our wedding day weight) and he feels like a new man. I can't believe that between the two of us we've lost almost 200 lbs!

I'm not proud of my food addiction, my bingeing, and my lack of self-worth, but i'm working on these issues and i'm learning that i'm worth the effort. Everyday I am learning new things about myself, and every day i'm learning to overcome all those bad habits that I had for years and years.

This journey has been worth it! I would not trade how I feel for any amount of chocolate (or milk duds) in the world (and that's the truth) !!!
